Here’s a free ride
for your COVID-19 vaccine

Getting the vaccine starts with getting to the vaccine. So TheCIL teamed up with Lyft to ensure you have a reliable ride when it’s time for your appointment. Contact us at (510) 841-4776 or info@thecil.org.

Check your vaccine eligibility — you can visit your local department of health’s website for the most up-to-date eligibility info. Once you’re eligible, make an appointment.

Download the Lyft app or make sure you have the latest version.

Find the ‘Promos’ section in the main menu and tap ‘Enter promo code.’ Then enter your code.

Tap ‘Apply’ to finish. You’ll see a notification that the code is valid for your account, and details and limitations about the promo.

Request your ride and be on your way.

Our Commitment to health

When it comes to the health of our community, we all play an important role. That’s why Lyft follows CDC guidance to develop new features and policies that facilitate healthy habits. All riders and drivers are now required to agree to a few simple rules before they can use Lyft. Learn more here. 

Please note: Driver tips are not covered by your credit, and if a ride costs more than your Lyft Pass amount the balance will be charged to your default payment method.

Drivers are required by law and Lyft’s policy to transport riders who use foldable mobility devices. Drivers are required to assist riders in the storage of their mobility devices, unless physically unable to do so.

Mobility devices include the following:

  • Foldable wheelchair

  • Foldable walker

  • Foldable scooter

  • Canes, crutches, and other smaller assistive devices

Wheelchairs and scooters that can safely and securely fit in the vehicle’s trunk or backseat, without obstructing the driver’s view, must be accommodated by drivers on the Lyft platform.

Drivers may not deny service to or otherwise discriminate against individuals with disabilities. Drivers who are found to have refused service due to a mobility device are at risk for removal from the platform for violating Lyft’s Terms of Service.

If you need a wheelchair-accessible vehicle (WAV) that can fit your fixed-frame wheelchair, we’re happy to help. We offer access to WAV rides through a ride type called ‘Access’.

When you request an Access ride, we’ll pair you with available drivers who can accommodate a non-folding or motorized wheelchair or scooter. Access rides aren’t available in every market yet. See where you can request an Access ride here.

If you’re not in an area with Access rides, we’ll help you find local companies that provide WAV ride options.

To request a WAV, you’ll first need to turn on ‘Wheelchair access’ in your Lyft app settings. Once you turn it on, you’ll see a new ride mode called ‘Access’ when you request a ride. If you don’t see Access as a ride mode when you turn on this feature, learn more about other ways to get a WAV ride.

If you can fold and stow your mobility device in the trunk or backseat of a vehicle, you can take any kind of Lyft ride. Read more about our foldable wheelchair policy.

How to download and create a Lyft account on your smartphone:

Download the app:

  1. Use your phone to go to your app store (the iOS App Store for iPhone and Google Play Store for Androids)

  2. Search for "Lyft" and install the free Lyft app

Create your Lyft account

  1. Type in your device's phone number

  2. To verify your identity, we'll send a verification code via text to your phone number. We want to make sure you're human!

  3. The text message should arrive immediately. If you don't see it after a bit, tap 'Resend code.'

  4. Type in your name, email address, and take a selfie, so your driver knows whom to pick up

  5. That's it! Once you've set up your account, you'll be able to request a ride.

How to add promo codes:

Some credits need to be claimed through promo codes, either by clicking on a link or typing the code into the app. If you have a code to type into the app, follow these steps before your trip:

  1. Open the Lyft app

  2. Tap the menu icon in the top left corner

  3. Tap ‘Rewards’ in the menu that appears

  4. Tap ‘Enter promo code’ to add your code (remember to check spelling)

  5. Tap ‘Apply’ to finish

After you follow these steps, you’ll see if the code is valid for your account. You'll also see the promotion amount, expiration date, and other terms.

How to schedule a Lyft ride:

Lyft offers scheduled rides for standard, XL, Lux, Lux Black, and Lux Black XL ride modes in some regions. When you schedule a ride, you must specify a pickup window. You can schedule a ride up to 7 days ahead of time.

  1. Set your destination.

  2. Tap 'Schedule' on the ride mode selection screen.

  3. Set your pickup address.

  4. Choose a date and time and tap 'Set pick up time.'

  5. Confirm your pickup and drop-off location, then tap 'Schedule.'

You’ll get a reminder before your pickup.
